Hey /3/

I'm a musician and visual artist. I'm putting together what could be considered a vaporwave album, and I'm a bit of a fish out of water as to the basics. I've dabbled in just about every medium, and I'm a very capable and (somewhat) professional artist, but dudes this 3D shit looks impossible to the untrained eye.

What sort of programs (preferably cheaper ones or free IF possible) would you recommend to create a very basic and rudimentary set of shapes and lighting effects like the image attached? Furthermore, how much of a mindfuck will I be thrown into by using these programs as opposed to what I'm used to (FL studio, Photoshop, GIMP, Vegas)? How much of a process is creating something like this:

Thanks gents. This could also open discussion for beginners in general.
